Gas Detection
This section provides numerous insights
into regulatory and safety demands for gas detection. USA
PRO's multiple warning strategy applies to both vehicle
gas detection and fire suppression. USA PRO developed the
Dual Early - 2009 Warning Strategy for onboard gas detection
to meet the demands of the newest safety regulations and
related documents. This system provides Amerex gas detection
in multiple areas and includes USA PRO's early warning drivers
panel inside the vehicle, thus providing the driver early
warning of a major leak. Most gases have a flammable and
explosive level at relatively low percentages in air: 5-15%
prox. Our system incorporates special sensors and a power
panel which provides initial warning at 20-30 % LEL. At
50-60% LEL, our large early warning panel LED's change from
green to red – initiate 85 db audible. Easily seen
and heard outside the vehicle.
USA PRO's gas detection system meets CA
Title 13-2008 with our exemption for providing a higher
degree of safety and driver early-warning notification.
We also meet National Fire Protection Association - NFPA
52-2010, and Society of Automotive Engineers - SAE J2343-2009.
Many new alternate fuels contain an odorant.
We do not believe that an odorant in automotive fuels furnishes
a primary source of safety, and that its use renders a false
sense of security. The challenges that odorants present
for industrial vehicle applications are linked with the
expectation that the driver and/or passengers will detect
the presence of gas prior to its reaching either a flammable
or explosive mixture: 5% is the lower explosive level. Few
people can consistently detect an odor at this low level.
In addition, a driver who is suffering from a cold or hay
fever and may be taking medication, or a driver who is a
smoker, will have represents diminished ability to smell
leaking gas.
